1867 - 1918 Flag of the Kingdom of Hungary Flag of Hungary, used between 1867–1918, while part of Austria-Hungary.
1918-1919 State Flag Flag of the short-lived Hungarian Democratic Republic from 1918–1919 under the rule of Károlyi.
1919 State Flag Flag of the Hungarian Soviet Republic, used briefly in 1919.
1920-1946 State Flag Flag of Hungary, used between 1920–1946 with the Hungarian coat of arms.
1946-1949, 1956-1957 State Flag Flag of the Hungarian Republic, used between 1946–1949 with the Kossuth coat of arms.
1949-1956 State Flag Flag of the Hungarian People's Republic from its inception until 1956. Bears the Communist Rákosi coat of arms.
October 23 – November 10, 1956 Used by Hungarians revolting against the Hungarian People's Republic. This flag, from which the Rákosi era coat of arms has been cut out, became the symbol of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.
1957-1989 (unofficially) Flag of Hungary, used between 1957-1989 (unofficial).
