Military districts of Russia

The Russian Federation maintains a number of military districts.

List of military districts


Military districts according to Decree of the President of Russia № 900 (27 July 1998).[1]


Military districts of Russia in 2001—2010

Volga Military District and Urals Military District was merged in Volga-Urals Military District according to Decree of the President of Russia № 337с (24 March 2001).[2]

Decree of the President of Russia № 1764 (12 December 2008)[3] changed names of regions after federal subjects mergers.

4 Military Districts and Joint Strategic Commands since с 1 December 2010 according to Decree of the President of Russia № 1144 (20 September 2010).[4][5]
