Excerpt
Introduction: During the 23rd Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (1999), an Intergovernmental Task Force on Foods derived from Biotechnology was established in order to develop standards, guidelines and recommendations for foods derived from modern biotechnology. The Task Force also established an Ad Hoc Working Group to prepare a list of available analytical methods, including those for the detection or identification of foods or food ingredients derived from biotechnology. It was intended that this list should also indicate the performance criteria and status of the validation of each method. It was further agreed that the list of methods, once finalized, should be transmitted to the Codex Committee on Methods of Analysis and Sampling (CCMAS) for endorsement. The 25th Session of CCMAS discussed ?criteria for the methods for the detection and identification of foods derived from biotechnology? in Budapest, Hungary, from 8 - 12 March 2004.
