Description: Earthquake Research Institute, the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. A model experiment was performed in order to evaluate the spatial resolution and accuracy of determining density by utilizing steel blocks whose density (7.8 g cm−3) and geometrical structure (5 m in length and 40 cm in width) were both well known. By comparing the experimental result with simulations, a density and a width of the steel block were measured as 7.3 ± 1.0 g cm−3 and 37 ± 15 cm, respectively.
